Since 1977, Cailap’s hair and beauty accessories have helped people feel beautiful and confident. Our parents built Cailap into a well-known Finnish beauty company, and since 2019, we sisters have continued to grow its story with pride and heart.

Family entrepreneurship was not something we took for granted. Stepping into this role required shared courage — and perhaps that is exactly why we are especially proud of our small but highly effective Cailap team.

With a dedicated team of around 10 professionals and the support of our trusted partner network, we create thoughtful, essential tools for everyday beauty care — products designed to make daily routines smoother and a little more joyful.

Cailap’s roots are in Turku, Finland, where our office is located by the Market Square in the heart of the city.

At the same time, our hearts are open to new international opportunities. We strongly believe that there is growing demand for our high-quality, well-priced products across the Nordics and Northern Europe.

Milestones along the way

1977

The Founding of Cailap​

Cailap was founded by our father, Lauri Laurmaa, and his brother, Kaj Laurmaa.​ The company name was created from the founders’ nicknames: Caius + Lapa = Cailap.

The First Steps​

Our uncle worked as a flight purser and brought small accessories back from his travels.​ Our father managed sales alongside his regular full-time job.

1978

A Turning Point​

A Finnish business newspaper listed Cailap among new and promising companies. At the same time, our father was laid off from his job, and our mother shared the news that she was expecting their first child, Heidi. The decision became clear: our father became a full-time entrepreneur.

1980

The First Success​​

Cailap introduced the Björn Borg-led Crossing Arrows jewelry collection to Finland. It was a great success and kept the company busy for several years.

1986

A clear Direction

The brothers part ways. Cailap focuses on beauty and fashion accessories.

1990

Sharpening the focus

The product range expands from jewellery to hair accessories, beauty tools and eyewear. Own collections and brand collaborations grow in importance such as Moomin by Cailap. A strong position in the domestic market is established.

2000

Building the foundation for growth

At the beginning of the 2000s, operations expanded and partner networks strengthened. Distribution to Estonia begins.

2010

Focus and new generation

Sisters Hanna and Heidi take on key roles. Operations are developed with a clear focus on core capabilities: product design, concept development, commercialization, sourcing, and marketing and sales. The foundation of today’s operating model is built.

2019

Heidi and Hanna Take the Lead​

Hanna Laurmaa and Heidi Laurmaa take on responsibility as entrepreneurs. Heidi serves as Product Manager and Hanna as CEO. Operations are modernised and growth accelerates. The brand is strengthened and sustainability moves to the core. The product offering evolves to meet changing consumer needs.

2025

A Bold Step into Export​

At the end of the year, Cailap appointed its own sales representative in Sweden.​ Step by step, our products are now finding their way into the Nordic countries and Northern Europe.
